Storyboarding a Web Page

Prepare Before 'Going Live'

When preparing pages to go online, it is easiest to 'storyboard' your web page first in a basic text editor, Notepad or Wordpad and then transfer you page into Site Build It, or across to a HTML editor for uploading.

There is a standard storyboarding method for the web which we recommend. This helps your page meet Search Engine criteria, and thus increase you chances of being ranked well by the Search Engines, as well as giving you a standard format to work from when copying and pasting work across to Site Build It.

**TIP- Always upload the images that you want to include in your page, BEFORE building that page. By doing this you can easily go to the graphics library and select the image that you want whilst building your page. If you forget, you will need to build your page, then upload your images, before returning to the page again to add the images.
Bottom line- be prepared!
More on saving images in the Optimising Images Tutorial.

Below is the recommended storyboarding template. For this example we have used the keyword 'website tutorials' so that you can see how our keyword is used in each instance. Simply add you own keywords and text and you're ready to go.

FILE NAME
Your File Name is generally your keyword for the page. No need to type .html at the end, SBI already does it for you
Eg- website-tutorials (this is our keyword, should be entered in lower case with hyphens between words)

PAGE TITLE
Your page title should include your keyword - is usually the same as your headline, the 'title' that actually appears on your page. (See Below)
Eg- Website Tutorials for Students of SBI

KEYWORDS
List your page keyword first (all in lower case) followed by variations of it that you think searchers would use in a Search Engine, with commas in between.
Eg- website tutorials, website design tutorials, editable website

DESCRIPTION
A short punchy sentence, again including your main keyword. This sentence is what appears in search engine results, so it should be written in a way to 'get the click'.
Eg- Use our online website tutorials to get you past whatever 'hump' is slowing you down in your web building journey.

NAVIGATION OPTIONS / BUTTON
This refers to whether your page will appear on the navigation bar (thus be a Tier 2), or if it is Tier 3, then this box can be unchecked. If it is a Tier 2 page, then you need to give it a name which will appear on it's 'tab' on your nav bar. Keep it as short as possible, it does not have to include your keyword, just be descriptive enough so that your visitors know where they are clicking to.
Eg- This page could be called- Tutorials, Web Tutorials, or Website Tutorials.

HEADLINE
This will always be the first box you insert when building your page within SBI.This is the headline that actually appears on your page, and should include your keyword.
Eg- Website Tutorials- Online Help and Guidance

CONTENT - BODY OF YOUR PAGE

TEXT BOX 1
It is easier to break a long page into sections, particularly if you have images on the page. Each section of text will fit into a text box, with an image, in it's own 'box' before the next section of text.

TEXT BOX 2
Graphic or more text.

TEXT BOX 3
More text, and so on with as many text boxes as are required.

**TIP- Always try to finish your page with a link that includes your keyword. The easiest way to do this is with something like 'Back to Home from ....keyword....' This is further explained in the Building a Link Tutorial.
